music list #4

Humpty Dance by Digital Under Ground
This is my favorite song that talks about a specific dance. This is my personal favorite because of how the guy who is rapping doesn't care about what people think. He's skinny, with a big nose, and ugly and that is exactly what he raps about.
What You Know About that by T.I.
This is my favorite song to listen to in the car and to simply relax to. The beat is so cool, it is the same synthesized sound playing at a higher or lower pitch. Its almost impossible in my opinion to not like this song
Girl by Beck
Beck is a musical genius that makes song that can be put in numerous categories. This song in particular starts out with a sounds that are similar to the sounds in Super Mario for Super Nintendo. I love that game and I love this song. I put this song on every CD I make for a girl; its one of my favorite songs about a girl.
Many Men by
50 Cent
One of the very first CD's I ever bought with my own money is
Get Rich or Die Tryin by 50 Cent. This song was on it and I liked it form the very first time I heard it. This song has a mellow beat with very meaningful words. I don't know what category this would be in but the song is about people wanting 50 Cent dead.
Uptown by
Drake, Lil Wayne and Bun B
This is one of my favorite songs because all three artist rap so good in this song. They all have great verses with an awesome chorus. They pretty much just nailed this song. I also respect Drake because he sings and raps in this song. He also is known for writing songs for Lil Wayne in the past and know he rap with Lil Wayne himself.

interview

I interviewed two seniors named Scott and Johnny. They have asked me to keep their last names and personal information private but have given me tons of great information. Both of these gentlemen have told me that they though that the girls would be easier than they actually are. Both also said they expected the parties to be a lot more like the movies. The school work is about the only thing that they expected to be as hard as it actually is. Scott did not change his major, he said " I stayed true to my word, stayed true to SJSU, yellow and blue". Johnny on the other hand, did change his major and is very glad he did. He was a communications major for his first semester and half of his second semester he switched to being a graphic designer. Johnny is also excited to start his Pixar internship that he will hopefully be starting this up coming summer. James also said that he wished h would have went to community college first so that he could get a better feeling for college and Scott agreed. Scott also said that people should take the time to appreciate the smaller things in not only life but especially in college; take time to smell the flowers. And as for advise for freshmen, manage your time well, get your work done but don't forget to have fun.

Scholarly Journal Article (revised)

In the article “Climbing a Stairway to Heaven: Led Zeppelin’s Celtic Embrace” by Kent Drummond, Kent raises the question why was Led Zeppelin so popular in the 1970’s and still so memorable today. According to Kent, who is a Professor of Marketing, explains Led Zeppelin’s accomplishments through the 1970’s was due to their Celtic influences and their transformation in style of music from 1971 to 1973. Drummond’s observation of how they changed from a dark, blues influence to a lighter more positive style really set their career off. Another factor that led to Led Zeppelin’s fame and popularity today is their marketing strategy and lifestyle. Led Zeppelin’s manger Peter Grant had the genius idea of trying to appeal to the fans and not the popular media. They weren’t like anything that anyone has seen before. They didn’t try to follow anyone’s path; they just lived their life like normal and played amazing music. Most of they success was due to their creative manger and management team. Drummond also said that he sees similar marketing strategies in popular artist such as U2 and Prince; some of the greatest of all time along with Led Zeppelin.

#2(revised)

Through a life time, ones taste in music is always changing, expanding and getting better. Most of the time people do not just stop expanding their musical taste because there is always a new song or artist that catches their ear. Every where you go you are going to hear at least one song. People love music so much they are constantly listening to it and trying to find more music like the music they already have. And that's not just in this time today; people have loved to listen to music as far back as the 1930's and 40's. Now according to my grandparents, the best music to listen to is from the 60's, 70's and 80's. My grandpa said that when he was young, he would scrape every penny he had just to buy the new record of his new favorite song.

My grandpa said that of all his favorite bands, the Jackson 5 would be his number one. He also mentioned Marvin Gaye and the temptations. He had mentioned that when he was about 18 he kind of stopped trying to listen to the latest music and he had to focus on his job. So his musical interest sort of died so he could help support his family. And when he got his life on track her still listened to his record but then they became obsolete because of a tracks and cassette tapes. So that forced him to update his musical interest. He then began to tell me about how he has never seen any of his favorite artist live but he has see various mariachi bands live in Mexico and here in the United States. And then he was telling me how the mariachi band’s performance at my mother's wedding was so fantastic, it was worth every penny to hire them.

Now my grandmother on the other hand is a completely different storey than my grandfather. She was born in Mexico and lived there for the first 18 years of her life. She likes and listens to the music my grandpa plays like old 70’s love songs but doesn’t really seem to enjoy music that much. She did tell me that she loves to dance salsa and marange but does not listen to the music when she is not dancing. And then I started to think about why and her response was in Mexico, that was the only time that she could listen to music was at parties when she was dancing because in her spare time she would just work in the fields, work at home and do everything her mother asked. That just made me realize that I really appreciate the way I was grown up with the opportunity to listen to music and to not have to work every second of everyday.

The history of my grandpa’s music taste seems to be exactly like mine. We both listen to the popular music of our own generation. The only difference between us besides the actual music is that he had to pay for his music where I have the luxury of downloading it on my computer. Also, I am able to listen to more song because of technology; iPods, the Internet and I also have more recourse like my grandpa, father, uncles and even cousins. Also, I have been to a concert and one recently actually but me knowing my grandpa he would definitely hate them because he is the opposite of a people person.

Study tip #3

I know that the theory of cramming for a test worked and was very effective in high school but not in college. College is a completely different game in which you must take the bull by the horns and take it head on. There’s no way at least that works for me, to get around studying for a test the right way. You have to study a couple nights before, do all or the majority of your readings, and do all your homework even if you do not receive credit for it.

Muse event #1

LOVE FEST

On Saturday I attended love fest in San Francisco and for the record it was out of this world. I recommend everyone go at least once. When I arrived to the city on Bart there were so many people it blew my mind. I've never seen so many people that were dressed so crazy on one street. There were floats in the street leading into the actual location where the party was at. All the floats had people dancing and people on microphones singing, rapping and just shouting obscenities. From Bart, love fest was only about a block away so we got there fairly quickly considering all the people walking there with us. As we walked in, we could here loud techno music, bass pumping, and people having an amazing time. When I got in, I walked straight to the dance floor and danced for I don't even know how long but it felt kind of awkward because it was the middle of the day. I got there around one in the after noon and left around seven at night. I was so exhausted on the Bart ride home that I feel asleep. I had an awesome time at Love Fest and I will definitely be attending this event next year.

5 worst songs EVER!

1. Two Princes by Spin Doctors. I do not like this song because after the chorus, the singer starts scatting and it drives me insane. Its possibly like one of the most annoying things is all the world.
2. Poker Face by Lady Gaga. This is such a bad song in my opinion because I prefer a remixed version by Kid Cudi where he samples this song and calls it "I Poke Her Face" and he does this song justice. Also, I don't think Lady Gaga can sing but she is hot!
3. You're a Jerk by The New Boyz. According to some people I met very recently, from Los Angles where The New Boyz are from, have told me that the style they try to say is from LA isn't this style at all. So basically they are jokes in LA and are posers. I'm all about being legit and being original.
4. Right Round by Flo Rida. This song is so bad because he sampled a Spin Doctors song in a rap song. And, Flo Rida cant rap, I cant understand him and I'm sure if i could i would hate him even more.
5. Yahhhh! by Soulja Boy Tell 'Em. This song is probably the worst song of all time and Im positive that 99% of people with a good taste in music would agree. Also, Soulja Boy Tell 'Em is one of the worst rappers of our generation and gives people my age a bad look. This song should probably be band from ever listening to again it is so bad.
